Carlsbad California: Hilton Resort

Our early flight out of Bellingham was canceled because the airport was fogged in last night. Here we are eight hours late enjoying a drink and a snack by one of the fire pits.

UA 1192: Our First In-Flight Post

$2 an hour isn't bad for e-mail and apps.
We enjoyed watching a fellow passenger's boarding routine as she texted furiously while pushing her bag down the aisle with her foot... Update: Our time ran out and we've now landed.

Impressive Foggy Landing at IAH

A Level 3 (?) according to the pilot... We didn't see the runway until we were about 10 feet above it, from the time those distant high-rises disappeared.

TPA-IAH 6:20 a.m. "Breakfast Plate"

United goes all out. Nice new $100-million 737-900 (?) though...

Sheraton Suites Tampa Airport

If the layout looks familiar, that's because it was formerly an Embassy Suites. It's a perfectly decent spot to hole up until we return our rental car at a ghastly morning hour and board a 6:20 a.m. flight for Houston. No doubt another bout of jet lag awaits us in the Pacific Time Zone.

Naples Florida: Noodle Saigon

With Tom at perhaps the best meal of our trip...

Naples: Barefoot Beach

Walking with Tom on our first warm day here...

It's a Small World - Florida Edition

In which we get together with friends and fellow travelers,in two different Florida locations, all within 24 hours, thanks to Facebook...

Bol and Sue visited us at home just about a month ago at the beginning of a mammoth trip with one of their daughters, her husband, and two children. Their trip has included a cruise to South America, a couple of weeks in Florida, and much more.

Lo and behold, they're almost driving past our Tampa airport hotel on the way to yet one more attraction, so they stop by for a quick visit.

Next Brendan, another member of Flyertalk whom we also first met over eight years ago at our first "Oz Fest" in Melbourne, Australia, comments that he's going to be visiting with his sister (also a Facebook friend of Brian) and her husband, who are spending a month in a condo in... Naples!

It's only a 30-minute drive from Tom's place, and he's at work, so we drive over and enjoy an exceptionally pleasant lunch with them at The Dock, a fun joint right on the water.

Yes, it's a small world sometimes.

Tampa Crowne Plaza

We're sitting in the bar having a late burger dinner.

We had breakfast in the first flight but only the infamous United snack basket for the 6:00 p.m. two-hour flight from IAD to Tampa - in First!

Kathy did scrounge a second bag of Cape Cod potato chips; that's what we call exploiting the system on UA.

This hotel upgraded us to a huge street. It's maybe just a
little dumpy (this is Florida) but a nice gesture and great fun.

Landing at ORD

It looks a little bleak after the Riviera...

Our Damn Big Lunch in Sainte-Agnès

It was the only place open and it was pretty good, but we couldn't eat for about 24 hours.

Sainte-Agnès: The Highest Coastal Town in Europe

At about 700-800 meters it's not that high, but the bus up and down the narrow road dotted with switchbacks was a bargain thrill ride at a mere Euro each way from Menton.
