Historic Cobh Ireland

After a couple of stops in Le Havre and Cherbourg France, we docked in Cobh (pronounced "cove"), literally, the harbor cove of Cork Ireland, one of the largest natural harbors in the world. It was the last sight of their home country for many Irish emigrants fleeing the famine in the 1840s for America, it was the port the Titanic sailed out of on its maiden voyage, and it was the port to which survivors and victims of the German torpedo attack on the Lusitania were brought.

Hard to imagine those three three tragic episodes when looking around this charming and colorful little town. We got some good exercise walking up and around the hilly neighborhoods.

Here is a somber memorial to the victims of the Lusitania.

On a lighter note, it's obvious the Irish love to gamble, and there are always betting shops available.
