The Colorful Island of Burano

It’s about 90-minutes by two vaporettos to get there from our hotel, and it was well worth it.

The island itself has a population of three thousand or less. The main industry is tourism, but there are still working fishermen there as well.

Legend has it that the houses are painted in bright colors to enable returning fishermen to find their way back to their own houses in heavy fog.

We happened to visit on a bright and sunny day. The colors were vivid and there was a photo to shoot in every direction.

They’re celebrating Carnivale here as well.

Burano has its own leaning tower. Pisa, eat your heart out.
