More Barcelona Wanderings

We weren't going to let a few showers stop us on our last full day in Barcelona, so after breakfast off we headed to the Metro and the Gothic Quarter and Barceloneta.

We started at the Catedral de Barcelona.
After wandering through the narrow streets for awhile we rambled over to La Rambla and strolled down it to the waterfront and the Christopher Columbus Monument, Barcelona being the place Chris reported to Queen Isabella and King Ferdinand, who had financed his trip to the new continent.

We admired the beautiful old buildings before heading to a modern shopping mall monstrosity. What a contrast in styles...

At this point our umbrella was open in the only brief downpour of our day, but we had to stop and chuckle at the wording on the sign...
"You acceed to the Rambla De Mar under your responsibility."
In and out very quickly and off we headed to Barceloneta. That also involved a walk back over a swing bridge while dodging umbrellas.
Along the way, we noticed a pub with a familiar name.
It didn't take long for us to realize we were hungry and ate our first lunch out in Barcelona at Buon Appetito, a cute little Italian joint that is justifiably well reviewed in Trip Advisor.
While Brian's rigatoni with Bolognese sauce was ample and delicious, the vegetarian Calzone Kathy ordered proved to be a monster portion. What with sharing, we managed to finish most of it.

Another stroll back to the Metro, stopping to watch hardy November surfers try to ride small waves and the love-it-or-hate-it Westin Hotel, and before we know it we're back at the Hilton Diagonal Mar for our final night in Barcelona this trip.
