Aboard OBB Railjet To Wien

We splurged a little on First Class seats and are comfortably seated in two-across leather seats on OEBB Train 163 bound for Vienna. We didn't realize until after we boarded that the deal includes free WiFi.

We left Innsbruck about five minutes late but the train has hit speeds as fast as 217 kilometers per hour as we zipped through two long tunnels. The scenery continues to be breathtaking and later one we'll order a couple of Frankfurters mit Senf and a beer to go with it. The prices are reasonable and employees take the order and bring the food directly to our seats.

The next stop is Salzburg around 2:00 p.m. (it's 12:50 p.m. local time) and we're scheduled to arrive in Vienna at 4:24 p.m.

Yes, the ride is better than that of Amtrak.

Glad you're enjoying your return visit to central Europe. I always love seeing the Alps, whether from 36,000' or at ground level. Hope you've snagged some decent hotel rates -- or maybe your are redeeming using soon-to-be-devalued Hilton points. Sounds like this is longer than your usual visit; anything you're particularly looking forward to?

It's great to be back. Almost exactly one year ago we were in the midst of a heat wave in Vienna, while tonight it's below freezing. We picked up several Hiltons in the "AWA" January sale, which has worked out very well.

We're looking forward to some basic Vienna sightseeing (retracing our steps from several years ago), opera in Bratislava, and getting acquainted with Croatia and Slovenia.
