South Africa Saga: Sidetracked At Draai

Draai is a little bit of nothing where we were parked on a siding for over an hour. Train manager William came by first with the ominous news that a train had broken down in front of us, and awhile later to announce "Problem solved."

Draai is 163 miles from Cape Town at an altitude of 2651 feet. How do we know this? By reading the pre-metric sign just outside the corridor window across from our compartment.

It's now just after 4:00 p.m. (7:00 a.m. at home) and we've traveled about 200 miles in seven hours - that's a pleasantly leisurely pace that suits our mood today.
